NEW WORKSHOPS IN 2025: FOR WORKING WITH OLDER CLIENTS IN WA.

Attention Western Australian Allied Health Professionals: The ASSIST program will be delivering a series of workshops in Metro and regional WA in early 2025.

As an allied health provider, you play a vital role in identifying and addressing substance use issues that affect the health and wellbeing of your older adult clients. Research shows misuse of alcohol and other drugs among older clients are on the rise. Substance use in older adults places them at increased risk of falls, injuries, and medical complications.

But you have the power to help. By incorporating effective, evidence-based preventive strategies, such as screening and early intervention into your practice, you can help minimise and prevent harm, and support healthier aging for your older clients.

Injury Matters, with funding from Healthway, is offering a series of free, face-to-face workshops in Perth and Bunbury to build your confidence and capacity to help clients in this area. Over the course of these sessions, you’ll learn how to:

– Understand substance use patterns and risks specific to older adults

– Develop reliable screening and assessment techniques

– Deliver evidence-based brief interventions

– Navigate ethical considerations and communication challenges

These practical skills will equip you to provide more comprehensive, holistic care that promotes medication compliance, reduces injury risks, and ultimately supports your older clients in living healthier, more independent lives.

The workshops will be held across Perth Metro, Perth North, Perth South, and Bunbury from February 11-21, 2025. Attendance is free, and refreshments will be provided.

Space is limited, so you should register today. Don’t miss this valuable opportunity to elevate your practice and make a lasting impact on the older adults you work with.
